How 2 Shirts Ministry Brings Hope Through Practical Compassion

At 2 Shirts Ministry, we call these packages Care Kits, but throughout communities across the country, they are known by many different names:

One thing we’ve learned through our ministry is that many individuals facing homelessness or difficult circumstances are incredibly thoughtful and caring people. In fact, when we distribute Care Kits, many recipients tell us exactly what they need and politely decline items they don’t.

An Important Item: A Care Card
Every Care Kit assembled by 2 Shirts Ministry includes a handwritten Care Card.
These cards may seem simple, but they often become one of the most meaningful items in the kit.
Our Care Cards are designed to:

- Remind people they have worth and dignity
- Let them know they are not forgotten
- Offer words of compassion and support
- Remind them that the Lord is with them and that Christ loves them

What Goes Into a 2 Shirts Ministry Care Kit?
All Care Kits contain brand-new donated or purchased items that help individuals address immediate daily needs.
Hygiene & Personal Care
Good hygiene can be difficult when access to running water, transportation, or shelter is limited. Our hygiene supplies help individuals maintain cleanliness and personal dignity.
Minimum Items Included
- Wet wipes or cleaning wipes
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Travel-size deodorant
- Pocket tissues
Added When Available
- New socks
- New underwear
- Lip balm
- Travel-size body wash
- Nail clippers
Packaging: Everything except wipes and socks is packed inside a 1-quart zipper bag to keep items organized and sanitary.
Nutrition & Hydration
Access to nutritious food and clean water can be unpredictable. We include easy-to-carry foods that provide energy and hydration.

- Granola bars
- Applesauce or fruit pouches
Added When Available
- Fruit cups
- Beef jerky
- Tuna packets
- Peanut butter or cheese cracker packs
Packaging: Food items are packed in a 1-quart zipper bag or paper lunch bag, with water packaged separately.
Comfort & Weather Protection
Exposure to weather can create daily challenges. These items help recipients stay safer and more comfortable outdoors.

Packaging: Everything except the rain poncho and umbrella is packed in a 1-quart zipper bag.
Spiritual Encouragement
When available, we also include a Bible or devotional.
Many recipients appreciate having spiritual resources that offer comfort, guidance, and hope during difficult seasons.
How We Pack Our Care Kits
Thoughtful packaging is an important part of our Care Kit process.
Once the individual categories are organized, everything is packed into either a:
- 1-gallon zipper storage bag, or
- 2-gallon zipper storage bag
depending on the quantity of items included.
This serves several purposes:
- Keeps supplies clean
- Protects items from rain and moisture
- Helps prevent items from being lost
- Makes transportation easier
- Provides a reusable storage bag for important personal belongings
Something as simple as a sturdy storage bag can continue serving a valuable purpose long after the supplies have been used.
