At first glance, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Lincolnton, North Carolina may seem worlds apart. One ministry serves hundreds of people on the streets of South Florida, while the other focuses on building relationships with unhoused neighbors throughout Lincoln and Gaston counties. Yet when you look closely at the work of Gloria Lewis Vargas and Angela & Amber’s Blessings, a powerful truth becomes clear: compassion looks remarkably similar no matter where it is found, and you can begin serving in your own backyard.
A Ministry Built on Showing Up
For more than a decade, Gloria Lewis Vargas has faithfully served the homeless community in Fort Lauderdale through her nonprofit, Care in Action USA. What began with a small batch of homemade spaghetti meals grew into a ministry that has provided hundreds of thousands of meals to people in need.
